Yet somehow, my PET scan has become an afterthought. Or something. No one was calling to schedule my PET scan, so I started making calls, to no avail. Apparently KP switched to a different company called Alliance for PET scans. I emailed my Dr on Friday finally, to see if she could help.
On Monday, meanwhile, I went in for more bloodwork. Monday afternoon, I get a call from the nurse. She said that although 2 of the enzymes were continuing to fall, that darn Alkaline Phosphotase was still high. She said Dr Kogel really wanted to stress I needed a PET scan. OMG. That poor nurse got quite the earful of how I had TRIED to get a scan and NO ONE would schedule me. She said if they hadn't called by today, I should call her directly and she would take care of it. I hope she had a nice glass of wine when she went home that night. She probably needed one.
Meanwhile I got an email back from another nurse that she had talked to Alliance and they would for sure call and get it scheduled on Tuesday. No one called.
Well, I hate being the squeaky wheel. I'm non confrontational by nature. But I really feel a strong need to find out if I have cancer in my liver. So today I squeaked some more.
Finally I got a call from the radiation department at Kaiser. They explained that my case has been taken away from Alliance and I have been referred to Lutheran Hospital, where I had my original PET scan. Given the time, she didn't think I would get a call today to schedule, but should tomorrow.
You know, if I had been simply allowed to call and schedule my own scan, it would have been done and over by now. And the sick little feeling in the pit of my stomach would be gone.
So no news doesn't necessarily mean good news. It just means.... no news.
